A new winery has opened in Addison County, and its products are all Made in Vermont.
For years, Lincoln Peak Vineyard has been growing grapes it would sell to other wine makers. But now Lincoln Peak is bottling its own wine, using only grapes grown on this land. The farmers built a new tasting room, and hope to strike relationships with area cheese producers, bakers, and restaurateurs to continue developing Vermont's reputation as a wine capital.
Owner Chris Granstrom explains the popularity of Vermont wine has developed along with other food trends in recent years. He says, "I think a few things have changed. Number one is a tremendous interest in local foods, local production, and the sense you're getting the flavor of this place. Also, the sense you're reducing your carbon footprint in that the wine doesn't have to travel across the country or across the world."
The new wine tasting room is open now, but it's hosting a grand opening July 12th, with tours, samples, and even free grape vines to the first 25 visitors.
