Choosing the Best Wines for your Holiday Meals
Appetizers – have you been holding on to a bottle of our “Sparkle” Pét-nat? If so, now is time to pop it open! Sparkling wines are a great way to kick off the celebration and pair beautifully with light appetizers. Our semi-sweet Ragtime White and Ragtime Red are ideal compliments to cheese and charcuterie boards.
The “traditional” main meal – for many, big holiday meals tend to focus on roasted meats (turkey, pork, and even tofurkey) and highlight seasonal vegetables which lean toward savory, umami characteristics. Stick to fruitier, dry wines such as our Petite Pearl rosé or Marquette Nouveau.
Trying something new this season? – if you’re preparing a less traditional, bold meal for your holiday dinner guests (maybe this is the year you have Thanksgiving curry), pick wines that can hold up to all that flavor. La Crescent is the perfect wine for entrees with a bit of spice and complexity. You’ll find that Marquette has the structure and depth compliment heartier stews, gamey meats and even pizza.
And of course, dessert! – Match sweetness with sweetness. Some of our favorites holiday desserts pairings include pumpkin and pecan pies paired with Firelight dessert wine. We recommend Ragtime Red or our sweet Cassis with dark chocolate or baked berry desserts. Looking to sip something while relaxing by the fire after all the guest have returned home? Our fruity, spiced Nighthawk dessert wine is exactly what you need to de-stress!
Our best pairing advice, however, is to grab a bottle of whatever wine makes you happiest and share it with the ones you love.
